Indigenous peoples living in the Arctic region of North America developed many technologies that helped them survive the extreme winter climate. One invention was the snow goggle which protected the eyes from wind and the glare of sunlight reflecting off of snow and ice. The goggles were carved from caribou bone, walrus ivory or caribou antler and had horizontal slits cut into them to see through.
