Located in present day Chile, Monte Verde is an ancient village site that was inhabited by Indigenous people around 14,800 years ago. Archaeologists have uncovered midden sites (old garbage piles) that contain the shells of crabs and clams at this site, which suggests the people living in Monte Verde had a marine-based diet.
